Read about how Imām Iftikhar Daad al-Azharī took part in the Kew Gardens 10K charity run
In an inspiring display of dedication, humility, and sincerity, Imām Iftikhar Daad al-Azharī, scholar-in-residence at Dārul Ikhlās, recently stepped far outside the usual image of an Imām, quite literally, by taking part in the Kew Gardens 10K charity run!
Out of over 1,000 participants, he was the only Imām to lace up his trainers and take on the course, representing Dārul Ikhlās with quiet determination and deep sincerity.
What made this act even more special was the way he approached it. In true spirit of ikhlās (sincerity), Imām Iftikhar chose not to publicise his fundraising efforts beforehand. He didn’t ask for a single donation until after crossing the finish line.
Why? Because he wasn’t sure if he would be able to complete the run, and he didn’t want to ask for support without first fulfilling his own part. AlhamdulilLāh, not only did he participate — he completed the full 10K, and now he’s asking for your support.
Now that the run is done, the Imām is turning to the Dārul Ikhlās family, friends, and well-wishers — not for a huge amount, but for a simple, meaningful gesture. He’s asking just £10 from each supporter to help reach his £1,000 target, In Shā Allāh.
All proceeds will go toward covering the ongoing running costs of Dārul Ikhlās, supporting the vital work the mosque does every day in prayer, education, counselling, and community outreach.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Charity does not in any way decrease wealth.”
(Sahih Muslim – Book 32, Hadith 6264)
